Blue Mountain and Watch Me Run
have long ago left their bodies for the vultures,
but their hot-rod hearts
continue to carve out the
soul of the prairie.

Revving their engines, and then
screeching off without ever looking back,
they pull Love Dog into their quagmire car
every evening at dusk;
every day it is the same;
Making a vow with Spirit
to birth love each morning;
every night they become married again;
“Will you love me forever, Blue Mountain”
“Yes, Watch Me Run, I choose YOU”
Their monogamy has no shame;
they know it is this fire
that purifies their soul.

Where else is there to go?
